You left our little island to venture into the big wide world (the adjacent Isle) and get a degree. Go you, you fearless beast! After 3 or 4 years of living in a place where trains aren’t powered by steam, a cheeky Nandos is always on offer, and you can choose to watch a film in a cinema with more than two screens, you may be tempted to stay across the water.

Going to University is a great opportunity for a change of scene and to experience things our fellow Manxies can only dream of, like, a shopping centre that has more than 5 shops in it…But in the words of Dorothy, there really is no place like home…

And there has never been a better time to return home and consider kick starting your career in the Isle of Man. While many people turn their attention to the bright lights of the big cities as a springboard for their career, there are several benefits of choosing the Island over its counterparts. Starting with…

More cash money…

On average, salaries are a whopping 19% higher than in the UK. Sure, Island living is sometimes associated with a higher cost of living but you’ll definitely keep more of your hard earned dollar here. You can rent an entire flat with sea view for the same price as a cupboard in Zone 7, and you won’t be wasting your cash on extortionate train fares.

Scale the career ladder

Recent stats found that a third of the Island’s youngest employees (those aged 18-29) have been promoted in the past 12 months, making the career ladder look as simple to scale as a fresh summer hike up snaefell. A smaller (but still global) business centre means it’s relatively simple to get involved, network the hell out of the Island and get your name known to those in your sector.

Since you’ve been gone…

There are actually some seriously interesting businesses on our little Island, thanks in part to so many start-ups being supported in recent years. While there are still well established career paths into accountancy and law, you might be surprised by some of the epic roles in digital, egaming, technology, crypo, tourism, marketing and engineering that are recruiting right now.

Quality of Life

OK, so if you’ve grown up on the Island, you might think you know all the Island has to offer. But once you’ve been away, you honestly get a whole new appreciation for our fresh as f sea air and ‘grammable landscapes. There’s also a great quality of social life with something always going on – from drawing clubs to comedy gigs. It’s also crazy safe – which always comes as welcome news to someone (oh haiii!) whose uni house got broken in to an frankly ridiculous 3 times in one term!
