Every August since 2010 there has been a little event held at Laxey football club.This event sees teams of old, young, fit, sometimes slow and often drunk humans gather to play out a fun 5-aside tournament in memory of a fun-loving, popular Manx teenager who tragically lost his life in 2010.Jamie Haslett was just 19 when he was hit by a car whilst crossing the road at university.Jamie’s fun-loving attitude is carried on in this annual tournament, with a firm focus on enjoyment and family.With last year’s hot ticket penalty shootout returning again this year, can 8-year-old Conor K retain his title or will Uncle Joe be able to keep his shorts up and take the victory?!Colleagues, friends and family all gather to see out the often-raucous tournament which is always well greased and never too competitive with an under-16 rule seeing teams entered with ballers as young as 5 years old, all the way up to Uncle Danny topping out the age scale at 61 with nothing but his plumber’s gloves to keep goal in!We have even been lucky enough to see entire families field a team and plenty of Father//Son & Daughter combinations over the years!

How do I get involved?

Football tournamentJamie Haslett Victim Support

This year’s tournament takes place at Laxey AFC on Sunday 18th August 2010. Entries are now closed for teams, but spectators are more than welcome to pop along and enjoy the fun!It must be stated however that not all competitions are fair and friendly, in recent years the battle for the bottle raffle has really heated up.Thanks in large to “Ting Wray Athletic Team”, affectionately known as the T.W.A.Ts, who will not stop at a bottle of Head & Shoulders and some Johnson’s baby oil in their search for the elusive bottles of Jägermeister or Jamesons!All proceeds from the tournament go to the amazing local charity Victim Support ,whose support was exceptional during a very difficult time for the Haslett family.If you have any enquiries or questions please contact iomvictimsupport@manx.net or michaelphaslett@gmail.com.Even if your footballing days are behind you, or if they never even existed, it is a great day out with activities for the whole family going on.See you on the 18th August!var bannersnack_embed = {“hash”:”bz95yupt4″,”width”:672,”height”:280,”t”:1550754249,”userId”:38193901,”responsive”:true,”type”:”html5″};
