JAMES DAVIS AND DRL AL WITH QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC

INTRO FROM JAMES

*FEAT. A CRACKING MANX TAN

DELIGHTED TO BE JOINED BY DR AL

WE ASKED DOMINIC CUMMINS TO JOIN BUT HE SAID EVEN BY HIS STANDARDS A ROADTRIP TO THE ISLE OF MAN WAS A LITTLE TOO FAR  🎺

QUESTIONS

ASKED BY MARIA, ERIC, CONOR AND STUART

SCHOOLS

  • MORE CONFIDENCE THAT WE HAVE GOT THIS UNDER CONTROL

  • REGARDING THE REOPENING – WE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO IT IN A GRADUAL PLANNED WAY TO DELIVER WHAT WE HAVE PROMISED TO OUR STUDENTS

  • IF WE CAN MAINTAIN CONFIDENCE OF THE CURRENT LOW-RISK STATUS OF THE IOM – WE CAN GET KIDS BACK BY THE END OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR

  • A NEW OFFER WAS MADE TO THE UNION PRE LOCKDOWN, WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO DRAW A LINE AND MOVE ON POSITIVELY

  • ONCE THE STATE OF EMERGENCY IS LIFTED WE WILL MOVE FORWARD WITH IT

  • UNIONS HAVEN’T BEEN DICTATING THE AGENDA, WE’VE BEEN WORKING WITH THEM

  • UNIONS HAVE HAD GOOD IDEAS AND HAVE BEEN HELPFUL DURING THE PANDEMIC

  • NEED TO HAVE A DECENT SETTLEMENT WITH THE UNION THAT HELPS US TO EXPAND – WE NEED THE BEST TEACHERS

  • NOT QUITE SURE WE WILL DECLARE BEING VIRUS-FREE LIKE NZ

  • NEED TO LEARN TO LIVE WITH THE RISK

  • SCHOOLS ARE MORE THAN JUST EDUCATION, WE’LL LOOK AT THE KIDS EMOTIONAL NEEDS TOO.

  • KIDS MAY HAVE ADJUSTED DUE TO ISOLATION, WE’LL HELP THEM TO RE INTEGRATE

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

  • THERE ARE SOME COVID RISKS WITH INSTRUMENTS SO NEED TO BE CAREFUL

PRESCHOOL CREDIT

  • FACILITIES HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED READY TO REOPEN

UNI STUDENTS

  • BORDER RESTRICTIONS DON’T STOP YOU LEAVING THE ISLAND. COMING BACK MIGHT BE DIFFICULT THOUGH

  • WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT BY SEPTEMBER – STUDENTS WHO WANT TO GO TO THE UK OR ISLAND THEY CAN DO

  • PARENTS COULD GO TOO, THERE MAY BE TESTING / SHORT QUARANTINE

  • PLAN TO HAVE ASPIRATIONS OF DROPPING YOUR KIDS OFF A UNI

BORDERS & AIRLINES

  • AIRLINES ARE AWARE OF OUR SITUATION, WE’LL KEEP TALKING TO THEM ALL

  • THEY STILL WANT TO HAVE BUSINESS WITH US WHEN WE ARE READY TO OPEN OUR BORDERS

  • SOME AIRLINES SEE OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW ROUTES

BACK TO UNIVERSITY

  • PLAN AS IF YOU’RE GOING TO UNI IN SEPTEMBER – APPLY FOR GRANTS

  • EXPECT THINGS TO BE DIFFERENT – FRESHERS MIGHT BE ONLINE AND CLASSES COULD BE SMALLER

  • HOPEFULLY, AFTER CHRISTMAS THINGS WILL BE MORE NORMAL

  • GOV ARE REVIEWING TRAVEL TO UNI TO MAKE SURE IT’S SAFE

ANTIBODY TEST

  • TESTING PEOPLE GOING FOR ROUTINE BLOOD TESTS (WITH THEIR CONSENT) TO SEE HOW WIDESPREAD THE VIRUS HAS BEEN WITHOUT

STUART IS AT THE NUNNERY, NOT UP NORTH. HE’S THINKS THE GOV HAVE DONE A DECENT JOB SO FAR BUT HE’S NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE TENDERING SYSTEM CAUSE HIS APPLICATION HAS COST HIM A FORTUNE.

STUART ALSO ASKED ABOUT

SHOPPING LOCAL

  • WE MIGHT NEED TO EMPHASISE MORE LOCAL SPENDING WITH GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

  • WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE LOCAL ECONOMY AND NOT TAKE MANX COMPANIES FOR GRANTED

  • MONEY BEING SENT ON THE ISLAND SHOULD BE A PRIORITY

  • WE MUST LOOK AT HOW WE KEEP OUR OWN ECONOMY GOING

VISITING ELDERLY IN CARE HOMES

  • DR AL IS SORRY FOR THOSE WHO WEREN’T ABLE TO BE WITH LOVED ONES WHEN THEY DIED DUE TO THE RESTRICTIONS

  • LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN GO BACK INTO CARE HOMES SAFELY – IT WILL BE DIFFERENT BUT NEED TO REESTABLISH THAT HUMAN ‘CONTACT’

CAR SHARING

  • RISK IS SMALLER IN A CAR IF YOU’RE FACING FORWARD AND THE WINDOWS ARE DOWN

  • DR AL RECOMMENDS YOU CONSIDER SITTING BEHIND THE DRIVER IN THE BACKSEAT. IF YOU FEEL SAFER WEARING A MASK, GO FOR IT

COMPASSIONATE TRAVEL CASES

  • MATTER OF BALANCING THE RISK WITH THE INDIVIDUAL STORIES

  • TRYING TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO COME HERE ON COMPASSIONATE GROUNDS BUT WITH RESTRICTIONS TO ENSURE THEY’RE NOT A RISK TO POPULATION

SWIMMING POOLS

  • GOOD EVIDENCE THAT CHLORINE KILLS COVID

  • KEEPING CHANGING ROOMS CLEAN IS THE ISSUE

  • MIGHT BE LANES FIRST, RATHER THAN A FREE FOR ALL FUN SESSION

MOBILITY SCOOTERS

  • LOOKING AT MOBILITY SCOOTERS GOING ONTO BUSES AS PART OF THE EQUALITY ACT

APOLOGY FROM JAMES CAUSE HIS PARTNER BOUGHT THE LAST BIKE IN RAMSEY BIKE SHOP

ERIC WANTS DOI TO PULL THEIR FINGER OUT ABOUT HIS CASE WITH THE EQUALITY TRIBUNAL

DR AL – NEED TO SETTLE THE TEACHER PAY DISPUTE SO WE CAN MOVE FORWARD WITH UNIONS

  1. Too many irrelevant questions, some used the Q&A for a personal issue, not Covid 19 related.I tune in to keep updated with Covid 19 on our island not to listen to personal gripes with Government

  2. I have found them on the government website.Liz Aelbury, Mark Edwards, Marian Kenny, Stephen Tea, Mary Doyle, and Joe Cain plus James Davis. So he is employed by government- not neutral.
