UNFORTUNATELY, BUT NOT UNSURPRISINGLY, THE PANDEMIC HAS TAKEN A TOLL ON OUR MENTAL HEALTH.

FROM THE FINANCIAL BURDEN TO FEELINGS OF ISOLATION, WE HAVE BROKEN DOWN SOME OF THE KEY STATISTICS FOR YOU TO PONDER.

HOWEVER, IT MUST BE NOTED THAT THIS RESEARCH DID NOT INFER A CAUSATION, MEANING EXISTING MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES COULD HAVE EXISTED PRE-RONA.

PSYCHOSOCIAL WELL-BEING

  • DURING THE CRISIS, MORE THAN HALF OF RESPONDENTS EXPERIENCED ANXIETY OR WORRY.

  • ONE SIXTH EXPERIENCED MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

  • ONE THIRD IDENTIFY AS HAVING FELT ISOLATED.

  • NEARLY A QUARTER HAVE EXPERIENCED FAMILY OR RELATIONSHIP DIFFICULTIES.

  • RESPONDENTS OF A POORER HEALTH ARE SIGNIFICANTLY MORE LIKELY TO HAVE EXPERIENCED FEELINGS OF ISOLATION, ANXIOUSNESS AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

ECONOMICS AND MENTAL HEALTH

  • ACCOUNTING FOR ECONOMIC STATUS DISPLAYED A DIVIDE IN HOW MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS WERE FACED.

  • THOSE OF A HIGHER HOUSEHOLD INCOME REPORTED LESS FEELINGS OF ISOLATION, ANXIETY OR WORRY.

  • IN COMPARISON, RESPONDENTS IN THE LOWEST INCOME BRACKET WERE SIGNIFICANTLY MORE LIKELY TO REPORT MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

DID AGE MATTER?

  • YES, THERE IS A CLEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH AGE.

  • YOUNGER RESPONDENTS WERE SIGNIFICANTLY MORE LIKELY THAN OLDER RESPONDENTS TO REPORT FEELING ISOLATED, FAMILY / RELATIONSHIP DIFFICULTIES, ANXIETY OR MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

  • OLDER RESPONDENTS SEEMED LESS AFFECTED BY THE CRISIS, REPORTING SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACTS LESS FREQUENTLY THAN THEIR YOUTH.

AND GENDER?

  • IN COMPARISON TO MEN, WOMEN WERE SIGNIFICANTLY MORE LIKELY TO REPORT FEELING ISOLATED, FAMILY / RELATIONSHIP DIFFICULTIES, ANXIETY OR MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

  • IN PARTICULAR, FAR MORE WOMEN REPORT ANXIETY AND WORRY THAN MEN.
