 - Football fans rejoice! You may have heard about the creation of the island’s very own football team ‘FC Isle of Man’ and their joining of the North West Counties Football League (NWCFL) Division One South. Well in even more good news, their first ever match took place last Saturday at 6:30 in the Bowl against Guernsey FC and they only went and won the damn thing! The friendly match happened thanks to the air bridge between the two islands and was an exciting moment for the footballing community here. After the success of the event a rematch will be taking place in Guernsey on the 12th September. The match also showcased their new goalkeeper kit which has been launched in support of Prostate Cancer UK and Mannin Cancers with a design that reflects the ‘Man of Men’ pin badge from the UK charity.

In case you somehow missed the news, the A Level and GCSE results days took place in the last two weeks. While this may not seem like good news for everyone, we just wanted to say congratulations to all students who collected any results. Pass or fail, you managed to reach the finish line in a year that seemed determined to stop you from getting there. If you are struggling with results, you can get yourself over to places like the Manx Uni-Verse page on Facebook for advice on what to do next and keep in touch with your school or UCM. Hopefully, amongst all the Covid confusion, you managed to pat yourself on the back for finishing the school year so congratulations and on to the future!

You may think of Shia LeBeouf as the kid from Transformers or you may think of him as the actor who did thing like put a bag on his head on the red carpet and film that ‘JUST DO IT, DON’T LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS’ video. Either way you’ve probably not seen him like he is in the film ‘ Honey Boy .’ The 2019 film, directed by Alma Har’el, was written by Shia during his time in rehab as a therapy project and is based on his own life as a child actor and complicated relationship with his father. If this doesn’t make the film personal enough, LeBeouf plays the arguably abusive father character in the movie and gives an amazingly emotional and real performance that was massively overlooked during awards season. There’s also a fantastic performance from young Noah Jupe who portrays the complicated emotions felt by the main character with skill and intelligence far beyond his years. The film is only an hour and a half long and is definitely worth checking out next time you’re looking for something to watch. You can find ‘Honey Boy’ now on Amazon Prime by clicking here . - For family film night this week, the entertainment is yet again provided by those folks at Disney+. ‘The One and Only Ivan’ is their new star-studded original movie based on the true story of Ivan the gorilla and his animal friends who live in poor conditions at the ‘Big Top Mall’ with no idea as to how they got there. When a new baby elephant arrives, Ivan begins to piece together his past and turn things around at the mall with the help of the caretaker’s daughter. Critics have described the film as soulful and emotionally powerful and the blockbuster cast features the voices of actors like Angelina Jolie, Sam Rockwell, Danny DeVito, Helen Mirren and, apparently, Chaka Khan. You can catch the film now on the Disney+ streaming service. (Photo: Walt Disney Studios/Disney+)

Last week there was a podcast on the round up so we thought we’d continue that and introduce you to ‘David Tennant Does a Podcast With…,’ a podcast where David Tennant interviews his celebrity friends (very hard to decipher from the name, I know). After recording his first series last year, Tennant is back with series 2 and his first guest is Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons. This episode gets into Parsons emotional decision to leave the show that brought him to fame and growing up gay and in the closet. Tennant has a nack for getting emotional stories out of people and also has the connections for some amazing guests including Ian McKellen, Olivia Colman and Whoopi Goldberg. You can find all episodes of series one and the Jim Parsons episode by searching ‘David Tennant Does a Podcast With’ on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or probably just wherever you usually find podcasts.

Ah TikTok, the home of creativity during COVID-19, from short dances to little skits to making fun of Lin Manuel Miranda and now knitting a life-sized Thanos from the Avengers movies. Yep, you read that right, a woman on the video sharing app has taken it upon herself to attempt to knit a fully life sized (8”3’) figure of the purple supervillain from Titan. Starting in May, the Thanos isn’t yet finished but you can watch the latest update to the right and head to her account to watch the other videos from the beginning by clicking here.
