Update on nurseries, playgroups and childminders 

On Tuesday, the Chief Minister ordered the closure of nurseries, playgroups and childminders for most kiddywinks. The gov has asked parents to keep their children at home wherever possible, and asked nurseries, playgroups and childminders to remain open only for those children who are designated as ‘vulnerable’ or key worker children.

A list of those which have remained open and have places available can be found on the Registration and Inspection Unit website and will be updated on a daily basis.

School meal vouchers going in the post

Parents and guardians of children who receive free school meals will receive vouchers in the post next week to cover the school closure period. The vouchers, equivalent to three weeks’ school meals, can be redeemed at designated shops around the island. 

Test Centre closed

All driving tests due for the next three weeks are cancelled as a result of the lockdown and will be rearranged in the coming weeks. Anyone who has scheduled a driving test will be notified of the date of their replacement test. Vehicle tests will continue, anyone with a scheduled appointment booked will be contacted shortly with any changes.

Many of us will have seen the disturbing scenes from America last night where armed rioters stormed the Capitol Building, shutting down the joint sitting of Congress which was in the middle of confirming President Elect Joe Biden’s victory over outgoing President Donald Trump. The Congress has now sat and President Elect Biden will take up the office on January 20.

Social media shutdown

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg has announced that President Trump’s account will be suspended for the remainder of his term in office. This comes after his Twitter account was suspended after tweets which many saw as inciting the violence seen in Washington DC last night.

Bond villain is world’s richest man

Evil genius Elon Musk has just become the richest person in the world, overtaking Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The Tesla and SpaceX boss is now worth about $190bn after an increase in the share price of the electric car company. Poor Mr Bezos is worth a mere $187 billion #thoughtsandprayers.
