During the early hours of this morning fire crews from around the island were dispatched to reports of a structure fire in the vicinity of Dalby.
Two people and their dog were in a building at the rear of the former Ballacallin Hotel at the time of the fire, thankfully they were all fine and did not require further treatment after being checked over by paramedics.
Station Officer David Cowley has now provided this update: ‘Upon arrival crews were faced with a well developed fire that had spread throughout the old Ballacallin hotel. The structural integrity of the building was compromised by fire which in turn led to partial collapse of the building as well as the roof falling in. Due to lack of major water supplies in close proximity to the incident approximately 45 Firefighters rotated attendance to ensure that water could be transported from the closest hydrants.
‘Resources were increased and crews worked tirelessly through the night to bring the incident under control and extinguish the fire. Relief crews are now on scene and will remain there for a number of hours.
‘We would like to thank our colleagues in Civil Defence for their sterling work supporting our teams and also thank our Paramedic and Police colleagues as well as other supporting agencies for their support.’
A further update will be released later on today.
