GP Surgery on the Move

Finch Hill GPs are moving into the former Promenade Surgery in Chester Street car park. Finch Hill has taken on a significant number of patients who were formerly with the Promenade practice, which closed in June 2020. Its premises on the first floor of Chester Street car park are larger than Finch Hill’s, with two additional and more spacious consulting rooms, ample space for patient records and better access for patients. The move is due to take place around Easter. See more on that here.

New Speed Limit

The DoI is to introduce a 40 mph buffer zone on the Poortown Road, German on the approach to the existing 30mph zone on the entrance to Peel. The zone is intended to moderate speed of traffic in the vicinity of housing on the outskirts of the town. This change has been decided upon after monitoring the speed of traffic and taking into account the much increased density of housing in this area.

The DoI is to impose a temporary 50 mph limit between Ballig and Peel along Poortown Road whilst the signage for the new permanent speed limit is being installed. It is also to use this opportunity to undertake road surface patch repairs at several points along the road. The temporary speed limit has been authorised for up to two weeks from Monday 1st March and will be enforceable whilst 50 mph signs are displayed.

The Scream

Artist Edvard Munch wrote mysterious graffiti on his painting of The Scream, infrared scans have shown. A small and barely visible sentence written on one of the world’s most well-known paintings has been the cause of much conjecture in the art world. The words, ‘Can only have been painted by a madman’, are inscribed in pencil in the top left-hand corner. Now, new tests made by The National Museum of Norway have confirmed they were made by the man himself.
