Sport Will Be Ready to Resume After Lockdown

Sport on the island has been suspended with the announcement of our third lockdown, but is ready to go again once it ends.

A number of governing bodies have issued statements regarding the situation and their plans for when sport is allowed to resume.

The Isle of Man FA has said: ‘As a result, the impact on football in the Isle of Man will include the suspension of fixtures and training across all indoor and outdoor youth and adult grassroots football with immediate effect. It is extremely important that clubs, players, coaches, match officials, league officials, volunteers, parents, carers and facility providers adhere to the Government’s new national COVID-19 circuit break restrictions and we implore everyone to follow these.

‘As with previous lockdowns, when the Isle of Man Government has lifted restrictions and after The FA has granted the necessary permissions, the Isle of Man FA will schedule fixtures for that week. The Competitions Management Committee will obviously review the fixtures and cup competitions for the remainder of the season, but at this stage we are unable to advise the new schedule until the return to football date is established. Clearly at this point, it is the Association’s intention to complete all league and cup fixtures in the 2020/21 season, therefore it is to our benefit that The FA has announced the season can be extended to the end of June if required.’

The Manx Hockey Association said: ‘Well here we are again. You will not be surprised to learn that following this morning’s briefing, the Board has agreed that we have to stop once more, until after this latest lockdown is over, and subject to any other subsequent directions from government. Therefore with immediate effect all hockey activities are once again suspended. Once we know more we will advise our plans. But for now, please stay home if you can, and stay safe.’

The Manx Netball Association said: ‘In light of the current situation regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) and following the Isle of Man Government announcement today, Isle of Man Netball has suspended ALL netball activity and events with immediate effect until further notice. This should include ALL club organised training. The Board will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as and when possible.’

All other sports are also suspended, with organisers saying they will update members, officials and participants in due course.
