The Ben-my-Chree’s return to service has been further delayed and is now not expected to return to service until the end of the month.
During its scheduled period in dry dock, detailed inspections of the vessel have identified that specialist third-party work is necessary to repair stern tube bearings on the ship. The specialist contractors have now indicated that the scope of work required will take longer than initially anticipated.
Until she returns, fast craft Manannan will continue to operate daytime passenger services while MV Arrow will provide overnight freight services.

Charity Isle Listen has praised companies at the Isle of Man Business Park after they lit their buildings in green to highlight the importance of mental health. Isle Listen said it was ‘an incredible way to kick-off the start of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek’.
Parish Walk Sponsors
As final preparations for this year’s Manx Telecom Parish Walk get underway, Manx Telecom is delighted to announce it is extending its sponsorship of the event for a further three years until 2024.
The biggest mass participation community sporting event on the Isle of Man, the Manx Telecom Parish Walk is a highlight of the calendar both for professional and amateur race walkers. It is also greatly valued by the many charities and organisations that benefit from the fundraising that takes place by participants. Following the cancellation of the 2020 event, interest in the 2021 Manx Telecom Parish Walk has been high. Organisers are expecting a record number of entries for the walk which takes place on Saturday June 19.
MT CEO Garry Lamb said: ‘We are delighted to be able to support the walk for three more years, providing opportunities for people to not only reach some of their personal fitness goals but to also raise money for charities and organisations that help the wider community.’
The BBC is reporting that England’s NHS app will be available to use as a vaccine passport from Monday, but only for those who have had both doses of the jab. A paper version will also be available – by calling 119 but not through a GP. Both will be available from Monday, 17 May, when the ban on foreign travel is eased. The NHS app is separate to the NHS Covid-19 app, which is used for contact tracing.
Army Shot Entirely Innocent People
A coroner has ruled that nine people shot and killed by the British Army in east Belfast were ‘entirely innocent’. The victims included a priest trying to help the wounded and a mother of eight. The coroner ruled it was not possible to confirm who shot the tenth victim.
There will be a public inquiry into the government’s handling of the Covid pandemic in the current parliamentary session, Boris Johnson has pledged. Speaking on the first day of a new session of Parliament, the prime minister told MPs he had already made it clear an inquiry was ‘essential’. He was responding to a question from Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey.
