Michael Josem to Stand in General Election

Michael Josem has announced that he will be standing in this year’s General Election, contesting the Douglas East constituency, representing the Liberal Vannin Party.

Announcing his candidacy, Mr Josem said: ‘I have been fortunate to serve our island community as a volunteer for the Foodbank, local sporting teams and many other not-for-profit organisations. That’s why many local residents have encouraged me to stand as a candidate for Douglas East – I’m running for all of us.

‘Our campaign for Douglas East is about bouncing back better from the pandemic to build and rebuild our community organisations, to build our island as a shining beacon when much of the world faces stormy seas. Our campaign is for all of us – if your family has lived on the Isle of Man for thousands of years and if you’re a new arrival. Our campaign is about bouncing back better with a renewed focus on fairness, freedom, and most of all, a focus on our community. Join us online at michaeljosem.com and phone me on 488557.’

Having lived in Douglas for almost a decade, Mr Josem currently works full-time as the founder of the not-for-profit lobby group, the Manx TaxPayers’ Alliance. He also works part-time for the Manx Cooperative Society connecting with local Manx charities and is an active volunteer with many local community groups including the Isle of Man Foodbank, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Liberal Vannin Party and the Isle of Man Woodland Trust.

He has represented the Isle of Man as a member of the Isle of Man Men’s Netball Team, and the Isle of Man’s Gaelic Football Team, serves as a leader of Isle of Man Netball and the Castletown Hockey Club, and helped to found the Douglas Basketball Club.

Mr Josem previously stood in last year’s Douglas South by-election, losing out to Captain Paul Quine by just six votes.

He joins Manx Labour Party leader Joney Faragher, in announcing their intention to contest the seats currently held by Clare Barber MHK and Chris Robertshaw MHK. The latter has already announced he will retire at the end of this parliamentary term.
