Douglas Mayor Jon Joughin has announced that he will stand as an independent candidate for the Douglas East constituency in this year’s General Election.

Councillor Joughin will therefore not seek re-election in the local authority elections but will continue in his role as Mayor until the end of his term.

He informed his fellow councillors of his intention to stand at the end of today’s Council sitting having previously represented the constituency before the 2016 election when he narrowly came third behind Chris Robertshaw MHK, who has announced that he will retire after this year’s election.

So far, Manx Labour Party leader Joney Faragher and Liberal Vannin’s Michael Josem have announced their intention to the stand in Douglas East.

The General Election is on September 23, if you are planning to stand, make sure to let Gef known by emailing
