The Leader of Douglas Council David Christian will not be contesting this year’s local authority election.

Mr Christian has been leader of the council for almost 20 years but is not one of the candidates listed for this year’s election.

First elected to Hills Ward in 1987 at the age of 23, Mr Christian, become the Borough’s youngest Mayor at the age of 31 and has been awarded an MBE and Freeman of the Borough status for his more than 30 years serving the people of Douglas.

The local authority elections are on July 22 and Gef will have an island wide roundup of where and when elections will be held, as well as who has been nominated and elected, once we have confirmation from each local authority.
