The gov is exploring options around accommodating voters in this week’s local authority elections who may be required to isolate.

Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker said: ‘This matter has been looked at in-depth in recent days and is being taken extremely seriously to ensure that anyone who wishes to vote in the forthcoming elections is able to do so safely and legally. While the advice we have received to date indicates that a change to existing absent voter regulations may be technically feasible, it will be challenging to achieve in such a short time-frame, as this will also impact on those local authorities who are organising the elections.

‘We are looking at every possible option to find a way to allow everyone who wants to vote to do so.’
