Fill Your Boots at Culture Fest

POC IOM’s Culture Fest is a celebration of the diverse people and cultures we have on the Isle of Man and how they come together to define what it exactly means to be Manx. The festival, which takes place on August 21 at The Nunnery, Douglas, will see music, art, sports and more on offer with tickets priced at £11.37, or free for under-18s.

One of our favourite things about the Isle of Man is the incredibly creative and talented people that live here, and the work that they do. We were really keen to put together a market stall and food lineup that not only showcased the amazing business owners that we have here on the island, but also provided an opportunity to those small businesses that have been working hard to keep going through the turbulent times we’ve had recently.

We were keen to try and supply something for everyone – whether it’s a local business that you know and love, or someone new who we think deserves a chance to show the island what they have to offer.

Market Stalls at Culture Fest

We are so proud to announce our market stall line up, and show you all who will be at Culture Fest showing off their talent and passions! Let’s hear from the brains behind the business about who they are and what they will be selling.

Clarachel Jewellery

Clarachel Jewellery is an independent jewellery brand created by myself, Clara Nathan. The brand began 2019, when I decided to spend one last summer in Newcastle before heading back home to start my teaching job. I needed something to keep me entertained while I was living in my beloved one room studio flat. Jewellery, by chance, happened to be the answer. I posted my first wire wrapped ring onto my private Instagram page… and boom, 100s of rings later we are transported to today. Clarachel has grown into much more than just a past-time. It has given me the opportunity to connect with so many amazing people. I adore spotting pictures of others wearing my pieces. My jewellery is handmade by me and the energy and love that goes into each piece is real.

So what should you expect to see at Culture Fest? Clarachel will be selling a range of bespoke jewellery, from polymer clay statement earrings to sterling silver rings. I look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces at this truly wonderful event.

Corvaal Skate Store

Based in the Isle of Man, we are a skater owned store, with a mission to create a central hub that supports skaters and creatives alike. We supply clothing, hardware, vintage, local art and accessories from some of the best independent and local brands.

Lyph Lab

Lyph Lab is a health and wellness initiative that focuses on providing our clients with the information they need to improve their general health. Being research focused, our solutions and guidance is rooted in evidence, helping you understand the WHY behind everything we offer. Our services range from physical health testing which can determine hormone and stress levels as well as vitamin deficiencies, to nutritional and lifestyle support. Both on a personal and corporate level. Whatever your health goals, Lyph Lab can assist in helping you become your best self.

MNA Candles

Mná Candles was created after I was gifted a candle making kit for Christmas 2020, and it quickly progressed into what it is today. I make hand poured female body candles that celebrate the different feminine forms, mná means woman in Irish so was a fitting name for the business! The candles also come in different colours and scents. It is a perfect small business to run alongside my university studies, as I find it a great way to have some down

Olivia Isabella Artwork

Hi, I’m Olivia, and I am currently a printmaker, previously specialising in Performance Art at University. My Lino Prints have adopted a tonal approach, manipulating highlights and shadows in order to create an image from the darkness. This method allows the individual shapes, or ‘blobs’, of a lino cut to remain abstract in their own right. Much like Rorschach tests, a technique that exposes memories from abstract black shapes, the collection of blobs come together to create a thing, a memory. I am on a journey of developing my skills with this method of printing and enjoy the new challenges that each new print and commission brings.

Sound Records

Sound Records is your independent record store. We provide the latest and best in new and used vinyl records; we provide a range of vintage clothes to suit your seasonal needs for both men and women; and provide you with all the musical equipment you need as a musician, from guitar strings to drumsticks. Our ethos is based around community and building that connection with music and people. We aim to be the music hub of the island and want to connect as many people as possible through music and our love for vinyl!

We will be providing you with your usual Sound Records goodies from our Pop-Up Stall… Vinyl Records, Vintage Clothes and spinning vinyl all day for you!

The Canvas Art Studio

Here at The Canvas Art Studio Isle of Man, we offer all different types of services.

First of all, let’s meet the team! The studio is now under new management, with Wesley Dowling being the new manager, and his good friend Jack Sullivan making up the other half of the dazzling duo! Wesley is an abstract artist, whilst Jack is a true art lover and has a pure passion for art and craftwork. We do it all, from transferring your own images onto canvas, to digital, contemporary and original abstract art. Making use of images from local artists and photographers, The Canvas Art Studio gives you, the customer, the freedom to choose exactly what you want. We always ensure that our work operates at a 5-star level; nothing leaves the studio without the customer being 100% satisfied.

We take pride in our work, our people, and our reputation and strive to be the very best at what we do. From how we interface with our customers, to gaining a full understanding of the task at hand. Wesley and Jack are very approachable people and are happy to answer any of your questions. Please feel free to drop by The Canvas Art Studio stall at Culture Fest to talk all things arty!

We look forward to seeing you 🙂

Wasted Mann

At Wasted Mann we take damaged, preloved clothing and materials and give them new life. There are too many clothes in the world; landfills are piled high with fabrics and ocean shores are riddled with designer labels – that’s why we use 100% repurposed materials in our designs. We sell a range of items from bags to tops to unisex trousers with sustainability at the heart of everything we make.

WollyMade creates super fun, funky and full of character accessories and original handmade pieces. All original fabric is hand printed and dyed by Molly, and any other fabric used is always responsibly sourced or from dead-stock/repurposed origins. By using zero waste pattern cutting techniques, I am aiming to create a closed loop production system that doesn’t generate waste and encourages consumers to favour independent and slow fashion brands.

Words in Wire

Hello! I’m Paige, or Words in Wire, and I am so excited to be at POC Culture Fest! I create bespoke wire art and quotes by bending the wire into shapes and words to be displayed in your home. I’m really passionate about incorporating the Manx language into my designs and love helping people to get some more Gaelg/Manx into their homes. I’ll be at the festival with lots of pre-made pieces for you to buy there, but you can also just come to say hi, chat through any questions you have about my work or place an order. I can’t wait to see everyone there!

So a little bit about my small business, I started crocheting as a hobby to pass time when Covid broke out last March. I founded my brand YZYL, which focuses solely on crochet clothing and accessories after receiving great feedback from friends and family as I posted more of my work. Fast forward almost 1 year later, I’m still continuing to design and make more products in hopes to grow my brand further whilst also venturing out into more sustainable practices through the materials and packaging I use.

At Culture Fest I will be selling crochet clothing including my best seller corset tops, accessories such as headbands, bags and hats as well as a few homeware items such as coasters.

Pretty Cakes and Bakes

Jenny here at Pretty Cakes & Bakes!

I love to bake and thought I’d finally get around to sharing my creations with the Isle of Man. My love of baking started at a very young age and is something that has grown over the years. I’m totally self taught and am always developing new skill sets, to share with you.

My past work experience was in Hotel and Catering and then Marks and Spencers. I used to make and share Cakes with fellow M&S Staff and they would always tell me: ‘you should have your own business.’ So I decided I would try and go for it.

Street Kitchen

We will be offering our top sellers from Street Kitchen which are Kerala Fried Chicken (KFC) Burgers with masala fries, Avocado and Samosa Chaat, Bhel and Sev Puri.

Sugarloaf Café

The Sugarloaf is a small café in the heart of Port St Mary. After lockdown, our homemade cakes and bakes have taken off and become so popular there isn’t a lot of room for much else! We try to bring all your needs into our bakes including a wide range of gluten free treats. Not many places on the island have a wider selection of homemade bakes than us, so come on down and take a slice home or demolish it there and then!

Taste Africa

Taste Africa is an outdoor catering business, however we also do indoor events. We mainly cook West African and South African dishes, but also provide dishes from all across the continent. Whether you prefer sweet delights or savour dishes – Taste Africa has you covered!

We are the island’s unique and only BBQ train, a family run business with a passion for all things flame grilled and smoked.

We use local meats from Island suppliers and partner with small businesses, like Ross Bakery and Andreas Meats, to give you the best the island can offer. With over 40 years of catering experience, we opted to try something a little different. We cater all types of events from birthdays to bar mitzvahs, christenings, fairs, festivals and anything else in between. Popular offerings from the train are the all-time favourites of Brisket Ciabatta, Pulled Pork, Macaroni cheese and a variety of other delights.

Is your mouth watering after all that? Ours too!

Get yourself down to Culture Fest to get your hands on these tasty dishes. Whether you want to try something new, or stick to an old favourite, we won’t judge! We’ve already got our pre-orders ready and waiting!

We want to thank each of these businesses for coming on board to support Culture Fest. We are so excited to have you at our event, and can’t wait for you to have this chance to share your amazing products and produce with the Isle of Man public again!
