While illness got in the way of an awesome little girl’s attempts to complete the Mini Parish Walk, once she was better Daisy Harrison set out to do the distance on the NSC running track instead.
The money raised has gone to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Daisy, known to her family as ‘Little Miss Sunshine’, did the walk in memory of her cousin, Wendy Ward who passed away from lung cancer. She was joined on the day with her twin best friends Sofia and Lola Martinez and their little sister Isabella.
The girls did five laps of the NSC raceway and family and friends cheered them on with some joining them on their walk.
Laura Jones, Community and Events officer from RCLCF IOM said: ‘We are so proud of Daisy who did the walk in memory of her cousin Wendy Ward and has raised over £1,000 on her JustGiving page. Many thanks to Daisy and her friends who joined her on the day – and to Gianni Epifani from the NSC for giving us permission to do it.’
Wendy’s husband Keith Ward, her mum Viv and daughter Natalie along with other family members including Daisy’s Mum and Dad were there on the day to support the little girl’s efforts. Her two little cousins also made her a banner to spur Daisy on.
Laura added: ‘It was a real family and friends effort, so thank you! We are all very proud of
Daisy and her friends – and thank you to all Daisy’s supporters who have raised money for local patients with a lung cancer diagnosis and their families.’
