Food and Drink Fest
A Castletown based company has announced it is working with Manx Wildlife Trust this upcoming weekend at the island’s food and drinks festival. The AB Proeject is a global initiative to reduce the waste caused by the single-use plastic bottle and will be in the “Sustainability Corner” offering special-edition Manx Wildlife Trust aluminium water bottles for purchase as well as providing unlimited chilled, filtered water refills, with a portion of all proceeds going back to Manx Wildlife Trust.
Ian Birdsall, Managing Director at The AB Project said: ‘By reducing the number of single-use plastic water bottles not only helps to protect the island, getting water from a tap or refill station is virtually carbon-free, in todays global climate just one reusable bottle makes a difference” We believe in change, we believe in making a difference.
Graham Makepeace-Warne, Engagement Manager at Manx Wildlife Trust added: ‘We all know just how unsustainable single-use plastic water bottles are and how much damage they can cause to marine life if they end up in the sea. I love the AB Project scheme because it is not just about providing reusable water bottles. The free refills really help to encourage people to get into the habit of carrying their bottles with them and reusing them as often as possible. Changing mindsets and habits is the only way we are going to start making a meaningful change in our society. I look forward to stocking the bottles at out Peel Gift Shop where we have our own ReFill location’
Only Two Hours Extra
The UK’s Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey has told the BBC that taking £20 a week off people claiming universal credit would only mean ‘two hours’ extra work every week’. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, she said the government would try to help people ‘perhaps secure those extra hours’. Labour has called the minister’s remarks ‘an insult to hard working families’.
Britney Spears has announced her engagement to her long-term boyfriend, Sam Asghari by showing off a ring on her Instagram account. The 39-year-old is fighting a legal battle to end her 13-year conservatorship that was imposed in 2008 after concerns over her mental health. Britney Spears has revealed that the terms of that arrangement prevent her from marrying her boyfriend or having more children. Last week her father Jamie Spears filed papers with an LA Court to end the conservatorship.
