The number of people looking for work fell again in August, with 395 people registered unemployed.

Figures released by Economic Affairs team at the Cabinet Office shows a drop of 50 people from July to August and a decrease of 605 since August 2020.

The decrease gives the island an unemployment rate of 0.9% compared with 1.0% in July 2021. The International Labour Organisation’s estimate is that 840 individuals are unemployed and looking for work in August 2021 compared with 890 in July 2021. This equates to an unemployment rate of 2%.

Across the month of August 1,095 job vacancies were notified to the Job centre in August 2021, which is an increase of 93 compared to the previous month (July 2021). At the end of the month, 720 remained. Of these, 54% (391) were full time positions and 46% (391) were part time.

The industries with the highest number of job vacancies remaining at the end of the month were catering and entertainment (136), medical and health services (126) and retail (108).
