Laser Aimed at Landing Aircraft

Police are appealing for info after a laser pointer was aimed at a plane coming into land on Monday evening.

The flight was heading to Ronaldsway from Liverpool when the green laser was aimed at the cockpit.

The aircraft was on its final approach to landing at Ronaldsway and landed safely at about 8.30pm without further incident. The crew reported this to Air Traffic Control who in turn informed the police.

A Police spokesman said: ‘The beam of the laser was believed to have come from the area of Onchan Head. The use of laser pointers may seem innocent and good fun at the time however the act of shining a high intensity laser beam at the cockpit of an aircraft is not only highly irresponsible but reckless as this could cause harm to those in charge of the aircraft and ultimately endanger all those on board.

‘If you have any information as to the identity of the person responsible or if you are that person we would urge you to come forward and speak to the police. If you have information but wish to remain anonymous please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’
