One of the island’s richest and most famous residents Trevor Hemmings has died at the age of 86.
Preston North End, the football club that he owned, confirmed the news in a short statement earlier this evening.
A club statement said: ‘Preston North End Football Club can sadly confirm the devastating news that its owner Trevor Hemmings CVO has passed away this evening 11th October 2021. A further statement will be made in the coming days but in the meantime his family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.’
A three time Grand National Winner, many Manx punters made, and sometimes lost, a pretty penny backing his horses not only at the National, but across the UK and Ireland.
Having made his home in the island, Mr Hemmings also ran several businesses from the island including the Ramsey Park Hotel.
He also supported charities in the island and recently opened a new playground at Rebecca House Children’s Hospice which he supported with money he donated alongside that raised by Dylan Walton.
