Tynwald Backs Covid Review

Tynwald members have given their unanimous backing to an independent review of the previous administration’s actions in relation to the Covid pandemic.

An amendment from Chief Minister Alf Cannan saw the recommendation from the Public Accounts Committee changed from an independent inquiry into a review, which will be asked to report to Tynwald by the end of December 2023.

As part of the review, Tynwald will waive all privilege in relation to any evidence relating to the pandemic that is held by the PAC and the Tynwald Policy Review Committee and that such evidence may be provided on terms decided by the committees to the review, if requested.

While the review stops short of a full inquiry, it did get the backing of Speaker Juan Watterson, who had moved the original motion. He told members the worst thing they could do is not review the decisions that were made.
