The Police are warning motorists not to leave their keys in their cars after a spate of thefts.

In the last three months officers have dealt with 12 vehicles that have been taken without the owner’s consent.

A spokesman said: ‘In the majority of these thefts the keys had been left in the vehicle. Thieves will find keys under sun visors, in door pockets, in glove boxes and obviously in the ignition. DON’T LEAVE THEM ANYWHERE IN THE CAR IS THE MESSAGE.

‘We are dealing with another vehicle theft today, there is an active vehicle thief on the island. If you read this and have left your keys in your vehicle, go and get them now, keep them in a safe place away from your vehicle. Please share this message.
