Digital Isle of Man and Finance Isle of Man, two Executive Agencies of the Department for Enterprise, have announced their collaboration with the FSA to launch a fintech ‘Innovation Challenge’ in early 2022.
The Innovation Challenge is being launched to invite businesses to develop creative, sustainable and technology-based solutions to a current issue in the financial services industry and support the winning applicant to take their proposition to market.
This journey will involve the use of a regulatory sandbox, which allows new ideas to be tested in a live environment, providing a controlled research and development approach, while reducing risks for consumers.
Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for Enterprise, commented: ‘It is great to see two of the Department’s Executive Agencies working closely together with the IOMFSA to create what is sure to be a fantastic initiative and showcase of the island’s strengths for supporting new growth and new opportunities in emerging businesses and sectors.’
Visitors travelling to the Isle of Man over the festive period are reminded that they must complete a landing form before they arrive. Regardless of entry status, anyone jetting off for some winter sun, Christmas shopping or visiting relatives must submit the online form before re-entry.
The Isle of Man still has some COVID-19 travel restrictions in place. Visitors who are fully vaccinated must apply for a vaccination exemption to enter, Visitors who are not fully vaccinated must meet a certain criteria and are required to apply for a permit to enter.
Returning residents do not need to apply to re-enter, but must also complete a landing card 48 hours before they touch down. This collects important details and is used to assist with the continued monitoring of incoming travellers, including those who are subject to isolation orders, and will help inform the island’s COVID-19 response. Completing it generates a unique QR code which, along with ID, will be checked on arrival confirming the person is legally allowed to enter the Island.

A Tory MP has linked young men turning to crime to women playing traditionally male roles in TV and film. Nick Fletcher said ‘female replacements’ in shows like Doctor Who were robbing boys of good role models. The only characters they had to look up to were gangsters the Krays and Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders, he said.
‘Is there any wonder we are seeing so many young men committing crime?,’ he told MPs taking part in a debate on International Men’s Day.
Manchester United are close to appointing Ralf Rangnick as interim manager on a six-month contract. The 63-year-old German is poised to join United but will not be in charge this weekend against Chelsea while he waits for his work permit. United have agreed terms with Rangnick, but not with Lokomotiv Moscow, where he is the head of sports and development. It comes after United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday following a trophyless three-year spell as boss.
