A trial into allegations of historic sexual abuse got underway today at Douglas Courthouse.

Joseph Henry Marshall, 85, faces nine allegations which date back to his time working at the former Knottfield Children’s Home.

Mr Marshall, who has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, held a senior position at the home in the 1970s and 80s.

The allegations include six counts of indecent assault, two of gross indecency and one of buggery, all against children under the age of 16.

Today saw the jury selected and the prosecution outline their case which all relates to alleged events between August 1974 and May 1982.

The trial continues tomorrow.
