Finest.im is asking residents to nominate their chosen Manx registered charity to receive a brand-new and boxed PS5.
The Facebook promotion is running on the Finest.im Facebook page now until 5pm on Friday January 28 (terms and conditions apply), after which a local Manx registered charity will be selected at random on Monday January 31.
Shirley Ver Elst, Managing Director, Finest.im Ltd said: ‘At Finest.im we believe that charities are at the heart of our community here on the island, but unfortunately many are currently facing extremely challenging times. We were very fortunate to be one of the few to get hold of a PlayStation 5 and Finest.im would like to give back to our community this January by gifting it to a local Manx registered charity. The charity receiving the PlayStation 5 may use the gift as they wish. This gives them the flexibility to use it as part of their service, gift to a user or as a raffle prize to generate funds.’
A person living in the south-west of England has caught bird flu, UK officials have confirmed. Cases like this are extremely rare and the individual probably became infected from very close contact with a sick or dead bird. Experts say there is no evidence of onward spread and all close contacts of the person are being monitored. The individual is currently well and self-isolating, and the risk to the public is very low. Avian flu, also known as bird flu, is a type of influenza that spreads among birds. The UK has recently seen a large number of outbreaks and incidents of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza in birds across the country.
About 1.3 million people in the UK have “long Covid”, symptoms lasting more than four weeks after an initial infection, an Office for National Statistics survey suggests.
Of those, 892,000 (70%) first caught the virus at least 12 weeks ago and 506,000 (40%) at least a year ago. The survey asked nearly 352,000 people to record their own symptoms. There is no universally agreed definition of long Covid and different studies use varying definitions.
Capitol One Year On
President Joe Biden has marked one year since the deadly assault on the US Capitol by condemning political violence in an address to the nation, as he also hit out at his predecessor Donald Trump.
On 6 January 2021, Trump supporters stormed the complex in Washington DC.
Speaking from the Statuary Hall of the US Capitol, he said the former president has ‘spread a web of lies’ about the election.
Biden added: ‘He’s done so because he values power over principle… For the first time in our history, a president not just lost an election, he tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob breached the Capitol. But they failed.’
