Getting the Decorators In

Government House is currently undergoing a bit of redecorating, a post on it’s new Facebook page has said.

The work is ongoing in the Dining Room, one of the three main State Rooms, which are used for large events such as receptions, lunches and dinners.

The post says: ‘Following consultation with the decorator – Hanley & Bell Ltd, a decision was made to leave the existing wallpaper in place and just to refresh the paintwork. This decision was taken for 3 main reasons, first the existing paper, despite having been hung over 20 years ago, is still unblemished. Second, if we try to remove the paper, there is a possibility that the walls may come away with it. Thirdly, the cost.’

UK Energy Prices

Labour has called for a windfall tax on North Sea gas and oil producers to help limit the expected rise in household gas and electricity bills by £200  The party says its £6.6bn plan would also remove VAT on domestic energy costs for a year and increase the warm homes discount for poorer households. Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves told the BBC the UK was ‘uniquely exposed’ to global energy price rises.
