McGuinness’ Last Ride?

TT icon John McGuinness has suggested this year’s races could be his last. The 49-year-old from Morecambe has racked up 23 wins since his debut in 1996.

After collecting his MBE for services to motorcycle racing at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, he said the 2022 races ‘could possibly be my last TT’.

He told the PA News Agency: ‘Last time I raced there I didn’t have a great TT, and I didn’t want to finish my racing career on a breakdown so this, never said it before, could possibly be my last TT. But I wanted to just go there with everything, you know, all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed, and go and enjoy it and see where we end up.’

A Russian attack on Ukraine ‘remains very much a possibility’ US President Joe Biden has said. In remarks televised nationally, he said the US was ready to respond decisively to such a move. Russia has amassed more than 100,000 troops near Ukraine’s border, prompting fears of an invasion. Its defence minister has said that some forces have now withdrawn. Mr Biden warned that this had not been verified.

‘The Russian defence minister reported today that some military units are leaving their positions near Ukraine,’ Mr Biden said. ‘That would be good, but we have not yet verified that. We have not yet verified the Russian military units are returning to their home bases. Indeed, our analysts indicate that they remain very much in a threatening position.’
