Pride 2022 will take place on Saturday, August 13, organiser Isle of Pride has confirmed.

Once again, the Villa Marina Gardens will be the setting for what Isle of Pride coordinator Clare Barber says will be an event not only ‘bigger and better’ than the 2021 festival but will also provide an opportunity to celebrate a landmark in Manx legislation.

She said: ‘2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexual acts in the Isle of Man and it’s only right that we celebrate what was a hard-fought battle and honour those who were brave enough to stand up, speak out and challenge and ultimately change attitudes.’

Hearts and Minds

Turning to plans for Pride 2022 she said: ‘There’s a tremendous amount of work going on behind the scenes to deliver what we’re sure will be this year’s largest community with a capital “C” event. We’ve listened to and learned from feedback from last year’s début Pride and are now in discussions with a huge variety acts, entertainers and local businesses all eager to be part of Pride.

‘We’re already seeing just how much Pride is capturing the hearts and minds of so many people and that’s hugely encouraging. But we also need to capture the generosity of companies willing to come forward as sponsors, in support of which we’ve put together an information pack setting out a whole raft of sponsorship opportunities, from the main event – the festival – to the parade, family tent, Youth Pride, Queer Cinema and many others.

‘We’ve now reached the stage when we’re inviting expressions of interest from food and drink vendors as well as from other suppliers to give festival-goers as wide a choice as possible. Pride 2022 will build on the amazing success of last year’s event. It will provide a safe space for the LGBTQ+ and the wider community to join together in celebration, to reflect on what we have achieved and, importantly, to reflect on how much we have still to achieve.

‘Save the date – Saturday August 13 – and come to the Villa Marina Gardens and be part of Pride 2022, a powerful force for good in our community.’
