Police Seeking to Commemorate Fallen Officers

The Department of Home Affairs has submitted a planning application that would see them install a memorial headstone and plinth at Police HQ in Douglas.

If approved, the black granite memorial would be placed outside the main entrance near the flag pole.

It will commemorate the lives and sacrifices of John Craig and John Wright, who died on December 29 1852, Gordon Black, who died on January 5 1966 and Denis Hamer, who died on September 7 1976.

John Craig and John Wright were both killed in the aftermath of the Brig Lily disaster at Kitterland. Gordon Black was killed while on motorcycle patrol at South Cape, Laxey.
Denis Hamer was killed during the 1976 MGP near Union Mills Methodist Chapel.
