Ravens to Descend on Gov House

Chief Minister Alf Cannan has told MHKs that FC Isle of Man will receive a reception at Government House to toast the club’s first-year success.

Mr Cannan also praised the tremendous success of all of the island’s sports stars and coaches.

In its first season, Chris Bass’ side has achieved promotion through the play-offs and next Saturday (May 21) will play in its first cup final.

This led Jason Moorhouse MHK to ask what the gov plans to do to celebrate this success.

The Chief told members that the team would and welcomed by the Guvnor Sir John Lorimer on June 21.

He added: ‘Let us not forget about the countless champions of sport our island has to offer, as could be seen at the recent 2021 Sports Awards, the 32 sportsmen and women the Isle of Man is taking to the Commonwealth Games in the summer, as well as the many individuals and sports teams that have had much success over the last 12 months, including FC Isle of Man and I would like to celebrate the island-wide achievements both by acknowledging them today and of course by wishing everyone competing in the forthcoming year the very best of luck.’

Mr Cannan went on to praise the many coaches and other volunteers who give up their time to ensure the island continues to punch above its weight across all sports and said their success should be ‘acknowledged and congratulated’.
