Police are urging people to be careful when walking home at night after a man sustained significant injuries in a collision with a car on an unlit road.
At 1.50am this morning emergency services were called to a report of a road traffic collision on the Peel road, Glen Vine, just past Glen Lough campsite on the west bound carriageway.
The collision involved a car and male pedestrian, who police believe was walking home alone after a night out. The pedestrian’s injuries are significant and the road was closed for a number of hours whilst services were dealing with the scene. Two males are assisting police with enquiries.
A statement said: ‘Police urge the public to be vigilant when walking on the roads in the hours of darkness, the investigation is underway and as yet the full circumstances of the incident are not yet confirmed, however the collision happened when the street lights were not illuminated, in hours of darkness where there is no pavement.
‘Please make your way home safely and if you do have to walk home be careful. Likewise if you are driving a vehicle in hours of darkness, particularly at this time during TT, please be mindful there may be more pedestrians about.’
