Watty’s 30 Not Out

On Wednesday June 1, Firefighter Richard Watson (Watty) recorded 30 years’ service as an on-call Firefighter at Ramsey Station.

If service like that isn’t worth celebrating, then we don’t know what is.

Watty has said that on reflection, he has enjoyed being part of the service and was especially proud to have been able to make a difference to his community over the past 30 years.

The fire service commented: ‘When asked about his most memorable times he spoke with a smile on his face about some of the personalities who joined the service at the same time as him, many of which have now retired, but reiterated that it was the great people that make being part of the service such an enjoyable experience.

‘Firefighter Watson has been to so many different incidents over the years that he found it hard to pick out individual incidents that stood out, but said that he still gets the same excitement when his alerter goes off about what the incident could be that he got when he first joined 30 years ago!

‘Thirty years working as an on-call Firefighter is a fantastic achievement and we would like to thank not only Firefighter Watson for his dedicated service, but also his close family and friends who have supported him, and in turn the Fire Service, throughout the last 30 years.’
