It’s Ramsey’s answer to TT entertainment and this week the town’s commissioners voted to do it all again.
Originally the brainchild of commissioner Juan McGuinness, SprintFest has grown each year to include more and more of the brilliant local bands playing the circuit.
During the board meeting last week, commissioner Rob Cowell, owner of Bourne Plaice chip shop in Market Square, said that while he applauded the event’s organisers for a brilliant event, it did leave some businesses around the square somewhat unhappy.
He said: ‘It may well have been a success if you owned a public house – but for the food businesses within Market Square they were severely limited by road closures and parking restrictions – in what should have been their busiest weekend of the year.’
Mr Cowell did note that he wants the event to continue into the future, but that Ramsey needs to look at its entire TT offering to ensure it benefits as much of the town as possible.
In the end, the board agreed to host SprintFest in 2023, while reviewing its benefit to the town.
Commenting on the board’s decision, Mr McGuinness said: ‘Incredibly pleasing news. Can’t wait to get back to the planning table with the team and start working on how to make next year’s event even better.’
