A public consultation on further regulations for the island’s sector is planned for later this year.
The consultation is referred to in the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority’s work plan for 2022/23.
Listed under high priority work, CURA said: ‘The Gas (Tariff Fixing)(Parameters) Regulations 2022 were approved in March 2022 and introduce economic regulation to the gas sector.
‘The next stage in this process is to begin working on primary legislation that will provide a solid foundation for a broader suite of economic regulation to be introduced.’
The consultation on the principles of the Gas (Economic Regulation) Bills due to be held in the fourth quarter of 2022. A response to the bill and drafting will then get underway early next year.
Other works detailed include review and implementation of the provisions of the Communications Act 2021. This specifically relates to the drafting and issuing of new licences for telecoms service providers.
