‘Shine A Light On Grief’ This Sunday

Buildings across the Isle of Man on Sunday are set to light up purple to show support for National Grief Awareness Week.

This campaign is run by The Good Grief Trust, with the theme being ‘Shine a Light’ which aims to illuminate the services available to those suffering from bereavement and grief.

Landmarks across the island which are expected to be lit up include the Tower of Refuge, Ramsey Swing Bridge, Ramsey Town Hall, Ramsey Courthouse (potentially), Rotunda in Braddan, Douglas City Hall, Douglas City Centre and Douglas Promenade.

A spokesperson from Hospice Isle of Man said: ‘Every year on the final day of the campaign, buildings are lit across the UK to remember those who have died and support those bereaved.

‘Cruse Bereavement Support Isle of Man and Hospice Isle of Man are working with local authorities, Departments and the community to shine a light across the Isle of Man as part of the national initiative.’

To get involved and show your support, you can either light up landmark buildings purple or simply light a candle at 6pm on Sunday, December 8 in memory of a loved one.

The spokesperson added: ‘Together, we can break the stigma surrounding grief and enable a more compassionate and understanding community.’
