Only Four Cars Had No Issues

The latest round of Operation Uplift checks has revealed another worrying number of defective vehicles on Manx roads, with just four out of 16 vehicles stopped in Dhoon on Monday evening having no issues at all.

Officers from the Isle of Man Roads Policing Unit were joined by Customs and Excise and the Vehicle Testing Centre for the operation, which took place outside Dhoon School.

In total, 11 vehicles were found to have at least one defect, leading to a flurry of Vehicle Defect Rectification Notices being issued for problems such as faulty brake and tail lights, worn tyres, cracked or missing wing mirrors, and even missing light covers.

One driver didn’t have any defects on their vehicle, but still found themselves in serious trouble.

Police say the car hadn’t been taxed since January, and the driver failed a roadside drug wipe. The vehicle was seized and the driver was arrested.

It follows another round of checks in Ballasalla last Thursday, where 25 of the 47 vehicles stopped were also found to be defective.

Sharing the update on social media, Roads Policing said: ‘Do your checks and make sure you and your vehicle are fit for the road!’
