Kicking your heels in Liverpool while waiting for the boat to come in?

And while we’re all super pleased that we’ve got a swanky new Merseyside ferry terminal to while away the hours in, it’s a about a 10 minute walk away from the old gaff.

However, if you do have some time and your hands and fancy popping into the heart of the city to see the sites or grab a bite to eat, we’ve got you covered.

Take a look at our short list of things to do near the new Isle of Man Ferry Terminal site.

They’re all just a short walk away from the old site to save your little legs the effort.

But don’t dawdle for too long – you’ve got a boat to catch remember!

CHEER ON THE REDS

Jurgens Sports Bar on The Strand in Liverpool.

A brisk 10 minute walk from Triskelion Way is every red’s dream venue (apart from Anfield of course).

Jurgen Klopp made his mark on Liverpool in many ways and broke every fan’s heart when he announced his departure.

Still, you can reminisce about the good times at ‘Jürgens Bierhaus’ – the ultimate LFC themed bar.

Decked out with Liverpool Football Club decor and memorabilia, it sells a wide range of food and beer with reasonable prices (and occasionally does karaoke as well).

It’s situated just opposite the iconic Royal Liver building on The Strand so you can’t miss it.

SEE THE SIGHTS

The iconic Royal Liver Building.

You could easily walk past the Royal Liver Building in a hurry and miss the beautiful architecture of this stunning building. 

And if you have haven’t explored much around this area, you likely haven’t come across the hidden gem that lies within.

Situated inside the building is the Relish Cafe Bar – a relatively new addition to the site.

Located close to the terminal, it offers customers to enjoy a hot drink, cocktail or food in an iconic setting.  

The cafe is open to the public Monday to Thursday between 8am and 6pm.

One Fridays, it closes a little later at 9pm although it is shut on the weekend. 

A quick coffee in this landmark building doesn’t sound too bad to me! 

ENJOY TEQUILA TIME (OR A BIT OF FOOD) 

A tequila bar on Castle Street.

A short stomp away from the terminal will lead you to Castle Street – easily one of the most historic and iconic streets in Liverpool.

Home to a multitude of different bars and restaurants you will be spoilt for choice here.

Whether you’re in the mood for a shot of tequila or a slice of pizza, Castle Street is a great place to begin your search.

And if you aren’t hungry or thirsty, you could have a mooch at Liverpool Town Hall – a Grade I listed building which is celebrated as one of the finest 18th-century town halls still standing today. 

CATCH A TRAIN AND GO FURTHER AFIELD 

James Street Station

So if your boat’s delayed or cancelled (because as we know, that does happen from time to time) and fancy a change, you could hop on a trail and do a bit of exploring further afield.

James Street station and Moorfields are the two train stations closest to the terminal.

Trains running from these stations can ferry you around Liverpool.

Chester and the Wirral are also options to travel to, depending how much time you had on your hands.
