The Show Won’t Go On

Port Erin’ commissioners have decided against holding a firework display this year.

Earlier this week it was reported that the authority was trying to find the money for a display to lighten up the gorgeous southern skyline.

However, chairman Godfrey Egee has tonight said that having looked into it ‘has been agreed that this is not something Port Erin Commissioners will be progressing’.

Mr Egee added: ‘Whilst I am sure that this news will be disappointing to some, it is important to note that there was no provision to hold a fireworks display this year, which was a decision based upon operational, financial, ecological and local business impacts taken during our rates setting process in December 2021.’

‘For those wishing to view a display there are several others around the Island which people can enjoy. Closer to home, Port Erin hosts its Hop Tu Naa Spooky Walk at 6pm on Sunday October 30 which is fantastic family event sponsored by Port Erin Commissioners.’

While the news may disappoint some, it has been welcomed by some local dog owners who responded to the Commissioners Facebook post.
