Drivers Urged to Take it Easy This Morning

There’s reports of ice causing slippery conditions in parts of the island this morning (Wednesday).

Police say the Emergency Services Joint Control Room has received multiple reports of icy roads in the areas of Richmond Hill and Mountain Road, prompting a reminder to motorists to drive to the conditions.

The Department of Infrastructure is already on the case, with gritters dispatched and spreading their magical salty wisdom in an attempt to restore order.

Drivers heading out early have been warned to take extra care, particularly on higher ground.

Police say conditions can change quickly at this time of year, meaning what looks like a harmless stretch of road may actually be plotting against your tyres.

Forecast from Ronaldsway Met Office: ‘Dry for much of the day with sunny spells this morning, then turning cloudier through the afternoon, ahead of rain arriving for the evening.

‘Mainly moderate west-southwest winds will gradually back south-southwest and strengthen, becoming strong and blustery by late afternoon.

‘Top temperature 9°C. The rain this evening will turn heavy at times, then clearing overnight as the wind veers southwest and eases.’
