Thermal Imaging Used to Count Wallabies

Manx Wildlife Trust has taken to the skies in an attempt to put an exact figure on the number of wallabies in the north of the island.

Unfortunately they haven’t released an exact figure yet, but we thought this is pretty cool.

Having commissioned Katie and Ben Harrower of BH Wildlife Consultancy to carry out a drone survey, the team have been even go as far as using thermal imaging tech to find the cute little fellas and lady fellas.

CEO of MWT Leigh Morris said: It was fascinating to spend time with @BenHarrower & witness how he conducted the accurate #wallaby count in the Curragh. The thermal imaging technology was excellent in differentiating sheep, hares, horses & wallabies – which have a very unique shape!’

While MWT said it isn’t ready to reveal a figure yet, it did promise there would be ‘some interesting results to be published later in the year’.
