Review: ‘Easily Tom Holland’s Best Outing As Spider-Man’

If you were to ask ten random people in the street who their favourite superhero is, the likelihood is that most of them would say Spider-Man.

Every time a Spider-Man movie is released, the mania and frenzy around it is remarkable. After being released in cinemas just over two weeks ago, it has already made an astonishing $1.67 billion in the worldwide box office.

It also achieved a feat that I have not seen in a long, long time: it sold out Douglas’ Palace Cinema on its first three nights of release. Now, if you ask me, that’s the real achievement.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day cements Tom Holland as comfortably the best ever Spider-Man. This film felt like a culmination of his entire journey – a new sense of maturity and responsibility alongside him having to deal with more deeper and meaningful issues.

The entire film feels like one big love letter to Spider-Man, and I’m never going to not enjoy a movie that celebrates the best superhero we’ve ever seen in a way like this. There’s a sequence towards the end that is incredibly wholesome and emotional, encapsulating how Spider-Man captures the hearts of different generations and cultures.

This movie in general is so much better looking than the previous three Holland adaptations, and pretty much all of the action sequences were exemplary.

Overall, this is easily Holland’s best outing, and it feels like proper grounded street-level Spider-Man that many – including me – have been craving.

Some things I didn’t take to so much and I think the stakes could’ve been made to feel higher, but it’s a really good-looking and entertaining superhero movie.
