Gef’s 30 Under 30 2024 Winners: Q&A with Kim Tastagh

The Frank Matcham’s Community Impact category winners find meaning in supporting and teaching those around them, and are shining examples of how small actions can have a positive effect for generations to come.
What is your name and age?
Kim Tastagh, age 29.
Job title or role in the community?
Content creator, Discover Isle of Man.
How did you start your career or role in the community?
I have a passion of sharing my favourites places around the island with the Discover Isle of Man tribe, whether they’re on or off the island. Some call the Isle of Man home, some have called it home, and some wish to visit in the future.
In one sentence, summarise your journey so far as a young and successful person under 30.
The island is a small community and I’ve been fortunate enough to make some great relationships already with some great people.
Have you experienced any hurdles in your career or community efforts and if so, how did you overcome them?
Not everyone is supportive and that’s okay, ride your own wave.
Tell us about why you think you won in the Community Impact category?
One of Discover Isle of Man’s newest events was bringing Jenny Graham over, the Ladies world record-holder for cycling around the island. We organised the event with help from our friends at Cycle 360, and ran the entire night and experience for zero profit, solely focusing on providing something for the people of the Isle of Man who like motivational stories, outdoors and cycling. Winters on the island are long, and anything we can do to provide more entertainment and make it more fun to live here is extremely intrinsically rewarding.
Who are your role models, either on-island or off, in your sector or outside of it?
Gary Vaynerchuk and Richard Branson.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Listen twice, speak once.
What changes do you hope to see in your sector or community in the coming years?
More events, spaces and things for people to do all year round for all ages. But mostly see more people outside enjoying nature.
What, for you, are the benefits of staying on or moving back to the island for young people under 30?
The island has great potential if you’re willing to work hard and prove yourself.
What does being a Gef’s 30 Under 30 winner mean to you?
I’m honestly honoured to be recognised for my efforts promoting the Isle of Man and the many places, businesses and experiences here.
