Gef’s 30 Under 30: Who do you think you are?

Did you take part in last month’s 30 Under 30 categories quiz? (If you didn’t then please GET OUT; I spent a lot of time on that).

If you did, then you might have wondered after your result, ‘Am I special, individual, and original?’

If you got ‘Leadership’ then yes! You are special, individual, and original. But if you got Innovation, then, unfortunately…well, we won’t get into that.

But if you’re still thinking about nominating yourself, a friend, a colleague, or a family member for real, then here’s some more information on each category to help you figure out which one to go for.

Sustainability

Now, we’re not saying you need to be the next Greta Thunberg, but it is going to take more than swapping your plastic water bottles for a reusable Stanley cup.

People in this category dedicate their time to advocating for things like renewable energy, waste reduction, and eco-friendly living, ensuring our island (and the entire planet) remains habitable and healthy for generations to come.

Innovation

It’s givinnnggg…Albert Einstein.

This category celebrates the island’s young inventors, researchers, and developers pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, creating new products, services, or methodologies that have a significant impact on our community.

Entrepreneurship

Did someone say LinkedIn?

These are the business-savvy youngsters (sorry I’m actually 23 not 73) who have started their own companies or ventures. They’re the risk-takers and visionaries, driven by a passion to create and grow their brands. Their lifestyle often involves navigating the challenges of business management, financial planning, and market strategy.

Basically, they’re that rich cousin that always turns up at Christmas with cool presents, but you never REALLY understand what they do for a living…

Community Impact

Think of this category as a big, warm, welcoming hug from your mum. Except she’s under 30, and also definitely does not have to be a woman (please see Gef’s 101 Guide to Feminism).

This one celebrates individuals who are deeply involved in social causes and community service. Shout-out to our social workers, nurses, teachers, and anyone who commits their time to making a positive impact in our island community!

Trailblazers

Do you have a sibling who is always showing you up? Making you look like the weaker, less intelligent sibling? Then they could be a Trailblazer and you should nominate them for Gef’s 30 Under 30 to make them look EVEN better!

Trailblazers break new ground in their fields, setting precedents and opening doors for others to follow. They are pioneers in their industries, often overcoming significant obstacles to set new standards or create new paths.

Achievement

I mean, this one is pretty self-explanatory. Done something cool? Did people clap, send a congratulations email, or tell you ‘Job well done?’ Then this is probably the category for you.

But if we’re going to be official, *cough cough* …This category honours those who’ve attained significant milestones or accolades in their field. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and excellence, often resulting in notable recognition or awards.

Collaboration

Recognised for their ability to work effectively with others (jealous), people in this category thrive in team settings and leverage collective skills to achieve common goals. They often engage in cross-disciplinary projects, highlighting the power of teamwork in solving complex problems.

You might be thinking, but isn’t that just the same as leadership? No! It’s not! SHUT UP!

Creativity

Individuals celebrated for their creativity bring originality and innovation to their work. They are artists, writers, designers, and performers who produce unique and impactful work, demonstrating a flair for thinking outside the box and are never afraid to let their true colours shine through. #cyndilauper

Disruptors

Before you ask, no, getting sent out of class for throwing bits of rubber at the back of the teacher’s head does not count.

Disruptors challenge the status quo and bring about significant change in their industries or fields. They are characterised by their unconventional thinking and ability to identify and exploit market gaps, often leading to transformative shifts in how things are done. Big minds, bigger ideas!
