We’re into countdown mode to Christmas now. Five. Days. Left. Which means it’s time to bring out the big guns: Elf.

It’s like being repeatedly smacked in the face by a giant snowball made up of elves, Santa, presents, Christmas cookies, New York, ice skating, singing, syrup, family reconciliation, sleighs, existential crises, naughty lists, jack-in-the-boxes, coffee, and a well-mannered Narwhal.

It’s a sugared up classic that makes you feel like you’re in a Christmas snow globe being vigorously shaken by a heavy-handed child. It may not be everyone’s favourite but it rarely fails to tickle my festive funny bone.

And remember, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. But not when everyone’s absolutely hanging after heavily mixing Prosecco, Baileys, Sherry, and Eggnog the day before. That’s the best way to spread the singer’s teeth all over the kitchen floor after being punched for not shutting up.
