Happy New Year socialites.

After a month of stuffing our faces with Quality Street, forced small talk with extended family about the Manxman being as useful as soap-flavoured crisps, and being clobbered over the head repeatedly by Elton’s Step into Christmas, it would be understandable if you fancied spending this weekend in a ditch, holed up away from the world.

HOWEVER.

It is technically still Christmas until 6 January. So, if you’re still in the mood to get out and about doing cool things here are some for your consideration.

That last one isn’t true. Sorry. There’s no room for dictatorships. I already tried.

Extra Fancy Drag Brunch

*Excellent for extra fancy people who love brunch and drag.

I didn’t think brunch could get any better. I was wrong. Kiki’s is celebrating the twelfth and final day of Christmas in style with a DRAG BRUNCH. Get all your ho-ho-hos ready to jingle their bells with brunch hostesses with the mostestes Fenella Beach, Nona Binary and Vida LaFierce.

Free Friday Folk Night 

*Brilliant for people who love not paying for stuff.

Where: Peel Centenary Centre

Time: 8pm

Price: NOTHING

Head on over to the wild west to join Mark Lawrence (original acoustic guitarist), multi instrumentalist and Manx singer Jack Mclean, and Clash Vooar,(folk/electronica/jazz) for a FREE night of folk music. You fall under the umbrella of folk so the music is for you. It’d be rude not to go.

The Return of Little Miss Dynamite

*Superb for people who love not doing dry January.

When: Saturday, 6 January

Where: The Mitre Hotel, Ramsey

Time: 9pm-1am

Price: Depends on how many drinks you buy.

Little Miss Dynamite will be doing her usual wild and entertaining performance of all the classics up north. Come on down (sorry, UP) and show off your moves on the dance floor. Your family may not have appreciated them but LMD most certainly will.

Groudle Festive Walk

Great for people who like Glen-based strolls with obedient pets.

When: Sunday, 7 January

Where: Groudle Glen

Time: 1pm

Blow away the seasonal cobwebs with this riverside walk exploring Groudle and Molly Quirk’s Glens. It’s about 5 miles of easy walking. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on leads. Festive refreshments will be available at the end. And if the dogs behave badly, they will be added to the menu.

If none of this appeals and you’d still rather have a sensory break by curling up in a hole in the ground, there are plenty of Brownfield sites around the Island not being utilised for you to take advantage of.
