Governor To Stay Until 2027

Sir John Lorimer is sticking around a little longer as the Isle of Man’s Lieutenant Governor after his term was officially extended—with the blessing of none other than His Majesty The King, Lord of Mann himself.

Originally set to bow out in September 2026, Sir John will now stay put until no later than August 27, 2027.

Why? Because the next House of Keys election is slap bang in the middle of his original departure date, and the Isle of Man Government decided it would be a bit awkward swapping out Governors while the island is picking a new government.

Sir John said: ‘I was delighted when the proposed extension to my tenure was approved by His Majesty. Not only do I find the role of Lieutenant Governor both fulfilling and rewarding, Lady Lorimer and I love living on the island and we feel very much at home here.’

So, Sir John gets an extended stay at Government House, ensuring stability while we all go to the polls. No word yet on whether he’ll celebrate with a cheeky pint at Nags or a lap of the TT Course.
