Lord of Mann Dies Aged 96

Buckingham Palace has tonight announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann, at the age of 96.

This follows a previous statement which said her doctors were concerned for the monarch’s health.

Having visited the island several times, most recently in 2003, The Queen had reigned as sovereign since 1952.

The first official visit of Queen Elizabeth II, together with Prince Philip, took place on 9th August 1955. The royal couple sailed into Douglas Bay aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, accompanied by their two young children Prince Charles and Princess Anne, who did not come ashore.

The Queen later visited the island in 1972, 1979, 1989 and 2003.

In that last visit, alongside the Duke of Edinburgh, The Queen oversaw Tynwald Day, chatted to islanders and got to meet Sir Norman Wisdom.
