Manxman Geoff Pugh Named Interim Airport Director

Geoff Pugh has been named interim airport director at Ronaldsway Airport, bringing his years of experience – and a bit of local pride – to the role.

Born and raised on the island, Geoff is a former King William’s College student who later headed to Manchester to study engineering.

He then joined the Royal Navy, where he served as a pilot and air traffic controller, including a stint in Afghanistan in 2011/2012.

After returning to the island in November 2019, Geoff has been leading the airport’s Air Traffic Services for the past five years.

Now, he’s stepping up to steer the ship (or the planes) while the Department of Infrastructure hunts for a permanent replacement for Gary Cobb.

Emily Curphey, DoI chief officer, said: ‘Geoff has a huge amount of experience to bring to the role.

‘Allied with his knowledge of the airport and its people, this will ensure the facility is in capable hands while the recruitment process takes place for a permanent airport director.’

‘The department would like to record its thanks to Gary for his hard work during his time in the role.’

Geoff said: ‘I look forward to working closely with the Minister and Members, Non-Executives, senior management and the entire airport team to continue serving our island community.’
