As news breaks of Noa Bakehouse’s upcoming expansion to Market Hall, Gef reflects on their rapid rise to bready dominance and how they became, in less than 6 years, a genuine Manx institution. It seems barely fathomable now but just over 6 years ago, Noa Bakehouse only existed in the minds of married couple Miles and Pippa Pettit. Their dream was to up sticks from the big city chaos of London and return to Pippa’s homeland to raise a family. There they hoped to one day open a small bakehouse by the comforting bob of the glistening sea. And now, with the announcement that they are to expand upon their all-conquering empire, it is safe to say they have more than surpassed their initial goals.Noa now seem entrenched as a Manx brand and one suspects part of that comes from their ability to impact upon all of us in myriad ways. For some, they are the purveyors of doughy delights – where it all started for Miles and his team of fellow bakers was as an artisan bakery. The smell of a freshly baked sourdough loaf emanating from Fort Street is, essentially, food viagra. Yet for others, they are a bohemian hangout spot; a funky host to catch ups with long-neglected friends over world-class coffee. Their evolution has been electric in its pace and eclectic in its range. Noa the venue now serves as the Island mecca for the creative community. They have hosted poetry slams, local gigs, community meetings, art exhibitions and weddings; all in all promoting the Manx community with the rampant force of a Buckfast-guzzling Rhino.2019 looks like it could be their most exciting year yet. Miles and the bakers will now have taken over the whole of Fort Street like a scutch of villainous and bearded Mary Berrys. The brimming with character and oh-so-Noa Market Hall will serve as the brand new cafe’ premises as of early January. The ‘old’ building will still be around, acting as the bread manufactory so if you knead anything…you can still pop in and see the masterbakers in action…Almond croissants, Manx collaboration, community spirit, creativity, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, bread so good it’s shaggable, great facial fur: Noa has got it all. The Man Isle is theirs for the taking and we’re happy to let them command and conquer. Cheers, you beautiful bready bampots.Get down there this weekend for the ‘last brunch’ before Noa rises again in the new Market Hall. var bannersnack_embed = {“hash”:”bvtm6f08h”,”width”:672,”height”:280,”t”:1550051219,”userId”:38193901,”responsive”:true,”type”:”html5″};//cdn.bannersnack.com/iframe/embed.js
