Meanwhile… at Wi-Manx

Here at Gef, we don’t know too much about technology. Sure, we know the basics:
- Always – wait – never put a fork in a toaster.
- Be nice to Alexa. For she will instigate the robotic uprising.
Other than that, we’re pretty clueless. Thank goodness then for Wi-Manx, the Island’s market leading telecoms company, who are here to school us in all things tech. Since their formation in 2004, Wi-Manx have been quietly going about their business, steadily building up a reputation as the unassuming boffins of Manx tech.
We sat down with their Financial Director, Andy Evans and Marketing Manager, Sarah Read to find out more about what they’ve been up to and what they have coming up.Now the monopolies of yore are condemned to memory and thus the Man Isle’s technological advances are now able to progress in a healthy and competitive manner. So, how do Wi-Manx differ to their competitors?“Quite simply, we are customer focused. 80% of our staff are in customer facing roles. We are investing in our team to help us provide the best possible outcomes for our client base. We’re hiring more people, increasing hours and investing in our team to provide the highest level of technical support in the market”This is a reassuring yet surprising move. We’ve all been there: Those moments of frustration where a muzak version of Robbie Williams’ ‘Angels’ plays out as we’re advised by a robotic ice-queen that “all lines are currently busy. Your call is important to us”. This is the antithesis of what Wi-Manx stand for. These guys are harking back to a simpler time of genuine customer care. Here, there are no A4 Q & A sheets nor disinterested drones. Their customer fronting team are highly skilled and proficient wizards of technology. Basically, like Peter Parker minus the Spidey Powers.
This is a mobile and nimble business with no time for complacency. In addition to further expanding their tech team at all levels, there has been another notable addition: A Dedicated Customer Hub at Heywood House, also home to Wi-Manx’s premier offshore Isle of Man Datacentre.“First-class customer service is at the heart of what we do, and this new area helps us to deliver better access, provide higher standards and demonstrate what we can offer.”“We are confident that this is the most modern type of data centre facility on the Island which already houses a multitude of businesses in various industries. This is a prime example of our dedication to cutting edge technology and innovation”Not to mention, this is a company with an authentic Manx voice. Incredibly, Wi-Manx are the only 100% Manx owned Telecoms Company and all their customer service is based on the Island too. This means you don’t have to worry if you live in the outer reaches of our blessed rock – we’re looking at you Ballakadheilligheshaghtiic Road – their engineers have it under control, fella. As the dearly departed Stephen Hawking once said “Quiet people have the loudest minds”. They may let the others do the talking but it’s time to listen to the unassuming tech firm who are leading by example.
